Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Field Technician I in Raleigh to manage assets, support installs, and troubleshoot a broad range of telecom equipment. You’ll handle deliveries, consumables, and coordination of material shipping and receiving, while maintaining tools and test sets for fiber, power, and transmission equipment.

You’ll participate in preventive maintenance, learn trouble-ticketing and provisioning systems, and contribute to service restoration efforts with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years related experience, including 1+ year in network monitoring/maintenance.
• Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to work on-call on a 24x7 basis.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, replaces defective components, and coordinates restoration with the right resources.
• Installs, changes, decommissions, and tests Next Generation tech (Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber, Ethernet, SONET, IP).
• Uses standard tools to locate and protect underground outside plant facilities.
• AC power work on a limited basis; DC power installs as needed.
• Manages asset processes and coordinates shipping/receiving of materials; maintains tools and equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance on network and critical infrastructure, including HVAC and DC power plants.
• Learns and uses trouble-ticketing and provisioning systems; reports inventory changes to management.
• Evaluates performance and identifies improvement areas with manager support.
• Performs other duties assigned by management.
