Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Field Technician I to manage assets, coordinate shipments, and maintain fiber optic and related equipment. You’ll assist in installations, testing, and troubleshooting to keep the network reliable.

In this role you’ll learn and use our trouble-ticket, provisioning, and inventory systems while supporting preventive maintenance on critical infrastructure and power systems across various locations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
• Entry-level technician with knowledge and experience in at least one major technician discipline (Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, Outside Plant).
• Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
• Must maintain site security and cleanliness.
• PC skills and proficiency in Windows and Office applications.
• On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis; on stand-by, dispatch, and overtime as required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift 50 lbs; work in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, removes/replaces defective equipment and works with resources to restore network.
• Assists in installation/change/decommission and testing of Next Generation technologies (Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, IP).
• May install and test network/CPE equipment for end user services.
• Marks and protects underground facilities using standard tools.
• Performs level 1 preventive maintenance and inspections on equipment and HVAC/DC power systems.
• Update/install records, log issues, and report status to management.
• Support inventory and asset management processes and return reports as needed.
• Learn trouble ticketing, provisioning, time tracking and materials systems with coaching.
