Job summary

Thompson Tractor Company is seeking a Field Service Technician to service and repair equipment in various field locations. You will diagnose diesel and gas engines, generators, and transfer switches, with on-the-job training to progress through the technician program.

Ideal candidates show initiative, teamwork, and strong customer service, and can advance based on attitude, skill, and performance. Travel and field work are required as part of this role.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of mechanical repair experience or equivalent education.
• Experience with diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, electrical components, and PM service.
• Proficient with basic PC use and typing.
• Strong written communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform minor repairs with proper tools and procedures.
• Order and return parts promptly for assigned jobs.
• Disassemble/assemble basic engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components.
• Perform preventive maintenance per factory guidelines.
• Utilize service information systems effectively.
• Work as a helper in field service with experienced technicians.
• Follow all safety standards and procedures.
• Work independently in the field as required.

Job description

The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing jobs involving servicing and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team in various field locations. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate and repair diesel engines, gas engines, electric power generators and transfer switches. Extensive on the job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to remain in the technician training program. They will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner. They will advance in Classification as attitude, skill level, and job performance allows.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations

• Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures
• Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in timely manner
• Ability to perform the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments
• Ability to perform Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines
• Demonstrates proper use of service information systems
• Works as helper in field service with experienced Technician as required
• Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
• Works independently in the field as required

Experience

• A minimum of one (1) year - three (3) years' work experience involving mechanical repairs, or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education is required.
• Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills are required.
