Job summary

Thompson Tractor Company, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician to perform service and repair of a range of mobile equipment in the field across Alabama. You will evaluate and repair diesel and gas engines, electric generators, and transfer switches while following safety standards.

Training is provided through extensive on-the-job, classroom, and e-learning programs. You will work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, customer service, and problem-solving to

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1–3 years of mechanical repair experience or equivalent technical education.
  • PC use and basic typing skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures
  • Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in timely manner
  • Ability to perform the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments
  • Ability to perform Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines
  • Demonstrates proper use of service information systems
  • Works as helper in field service with experienced Technician as required
  • Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
  • Works independently in the field as required

Description

The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing jobs involving servicing and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team in various field locations. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate and repair diesel engines, gas engines, electric power generators and transfer switches. Extensive on the job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to remain in the technician training program. They will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner. They will advance in Classification as attitude, skill level, and job performance allows.


Essential Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures

  • Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in timely manner
