Job summary

Thompson Tractor Company, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician to service and repair heavy equipment in the field, working independently or with a team across multiple locations in Florida.

You’ll diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on diesel and gas engines, generators, and transfer switches, and complete on‑the‑job training and coursework to advance in the technician program. The role emphasizes safety, customer service, and problem solving, with hands‑on maintenance,

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1–3 years of mechanical repair experience (or equivalent technical education).
  • Experience using PCs and basic typing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures.
  • Orders and returns parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform tasks on basic components in the work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments.
  • Ability to perform Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines.
  • Demonstrates proper use of service information systems.
  • Works as a helper in field service with an experienced Technician as required.
  • Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures.
  • Works independently in the field as required.

Job description

The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing jobs involving servicing and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team in various field locations. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate and repair include diesel engines, gas engines, electric power generators and transfer switches. Extensive on‑the‑job training, classroom instruction, and e‑learning must be successfully completed to remain in the technician training program. The technician will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner. They will advance in Classification as attitude, skill level, and job performance allows.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures

Experience

A minimum of one (1) year - three (3) years' work experience involving mechanical repairs, or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education is required. Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills are required.
