Job summary

Sunstate Equipment Co. is hiring an experienced Field Mechanic to diagnose and repair a wide range of construction and rental equipment. This role requires independent problem-solving, extensive diesel knowledge, and the ability to service equipment to manufacturer specs in a fast-paced rental environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional diesel mechanic experience
• Construction or rental equipment experience required
• Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics for diesel engines, Tier 4, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and drivetrains
• Experience performing major and minor repairs
• Ability to diagnose equipment problems and determine repairs
• Maintenance, testing, and documentation to manufacturer specs
• Basic MIG/SMAW welding repairs
• Owns tools valued around $10,000+

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel repairs

• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections

What We're Looking For

This is an experienced Technician III-level position. Candidates should be able to independently diagnose and repair a wide range of construction and rental equipment.

Required:

• 3+ years of professional diesel mechanic experience
• Construction equipment, heavy equipment, or equipment rental experience required
• Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic experience with:
  • Diesel engines
  • Tier 4 and aftertreatment systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Drivetrains
• Experience performing both major and minor repairs
• Ability to independently diagnose equipment problems and determine the appropriate repair
• Experience inspecting, servicing, testing, and returning equipment to manufacturer specifications
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance, including fluid changes, lubrication, and inspections
• Experience completing accurate service and repair documentation
• Basic computer skills for service work orders, parts ordering, and maintenance records
• Ability to perform basic MIG and SMAW welding repairs
• Must have the necessary professional mechanic tools for the position, typically valued at $10,000+

TWIC or Safety Council OSHA Basic Plus certification is preferred. Candidates who do not currently hold these certifications will be expected to obtain them.

What You'll Do

As a Technician III, you'll play a critical role in keeping Sunstate's rental fleet operating safely and reliably.

You'll:

• Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel repairs

• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections
• Test equipment after repairs to verify proper operation
• Complete service documentation and warranty records
