Job summary

Sunstate Equipment Co. is seeking a skilled Technician III in Phoenix to perform repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems for construction equipment and trucks. The role requires hands-on diagnostics, routine maintenance, and timely repairs to meet manufacturer specs.

Candidates should have 3+ years in diesel repair, own tools, and familiarity with Tier 4 aftertreatment. Strong troubleshooting, welding, and maintenance record-keeping are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years as a diesel mechanic on heavy construction equipment or rental fleets.
• Experience with hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic systems and diesel/gas engines on construction equipment and trucks.
• Experience with Tier 4 engines and aftertreatment systems (DPF/SCR/DEF/EGR) is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostics, and heavy equipment repair skills.
• Must have own tools to perform repairs.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor and major repairs on gas and diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical systems, and drivetrains (manual and power shift transmissions).
• Troubleshoot/diagnose malfunctions and repair equipment.
• Perform novice level welding repairs (MIG & SMAW).
• Inspect, service, and test equipment to manufacturer specifications.
• Perform routine service: check/change fluids and lubricate.
• Maintain accurate maintenance/repair records including warranties.

Pay Range: Starting $29 - $40/HR Dependent upon Experience + Quarterly Branch Performance Bonus Incentive

Position Requirements

• You should have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, with a background in heavy construction equipment or rental required.
• Advanced experience with major & minor repairs of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and diesel and gas engines on construction equipment and delivery fleet.
• Experience with Tier 4 engines and DPF, SCR, DEF, and EGR aftertreatment systems is highly preferred.
• Extensive experience performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing heavy equipment repairs.
• Must have the necessary tools you need to perform the scope of equipment repairs.
• Inspect, service, and test equipment, ensuring performance to manufacturer specifications.
• Advanced understanding of schematics, computer diagnostic software, and welding methods.
• Diesel laptop experience is required.
• Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and efficient time management techniques
• Successfully manage multiple priorities concurrently, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively
• Safety oriented, maintaining industry and Sunstate safety standards performing equipment repairs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform minor and major repairs on gas and diesel engines, complex hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drivetrains to include manual and power shift transmissions on equipment and trucks
• Troubleshoot/diagnose malfunctions and repair equipment
• Perform novice level welding repairs (MIG & SMAW)
• Inspect, service, and test equipment, ensuring performance to manufacturer specifications
• Perform routine service on equipment which includes checking fluid levels, changing fluid and lubricating
• Prepare/maintain accurate records on the maintenance and repair of equipment, including warranty records
