Position Summary

Reporting to the Area Service Manager, the Field Technical Engineer performs OEM service and installations of medical devices. Responsibilities include repairing, maintaining, and upgrading OEM medical devices or systems, and documenting all work accurately. Proficiency is required in either Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) or Ultrasound (UL) equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install and service OEM medical devices, including electrical, mechanical, and software components.
  • Complete preventive and unplanned maintenance, and perform upgrades.
  • Maintain high customer satisfaction through excellent service.
  • Keep accurate records of all work, including inspections, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Train customers on device operation and usage.
  • Manage inventory and return unused or failed parts promptly.
  • Perform scheduled PMs, respond on-site promptly, and minimize downtime.
  • Respond to customer inquiries via written communication, in person, or by phone.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to management.
  • Promote service contracts and assist sales in selling service agreements.
  • Provide on-call coverage as needed.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in electronics, biomedical engineering, biomedical technology, electrical engineering, or equivalent (military experience acceptable).
  • 1-3 years of experience servicing BMD or Ultrasound equipment.
  • Experience in mechanical, electronics, or fluidics work, in field service or hospital settings.
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office, operating systems, and network technology.
  • Experience interfacing with team members and customers in a solution-based service process.
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment like Digital Multi-Meters and safety analyzers.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle record check.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering or military equivalent with relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Problem-solving, analytical thinking, independent work, and professional communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, and on-call including weekends.
  • Mechanical aptitude, interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, and time management.
  • Ability to adapt, make decisions, resolve problems, and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Adherence to certification and credentialing requirements, including drug testing and immunizations.

Other:

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Work environment involves physical demands like lifting 50 lbs, standing, walking, and driving.
  • Must have good vision and manual dexterity.
  • Travel up to 80% required.
