Job summary

Prudent Engineering is seeking a well-rounded Survey Technician / Instrument Operator to support NYSDOT design survey assignments, combining field and office responsibilities and working closely with Party Chiefs, Licensed Land Surveyors, and CADD staff to complete highway, bridge, dam, boundary, and topographic surveys accurately, safely, and efficiently.

Qualifications

• At least one year of land surveying experience in field or office roles.
• Knowledge of surveying principles and field procedures.
• Ability to interpret survey plans and legal descriptions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate Trimble robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and laser scanners.
• Collect data for survey control, boundaries, topography, and utilities.
• Maintain field notes, photographs, and sketches per NYSDOT requirements.
• Prepare survey mappings and 3D surfaces from field data.
• Coordinate with Party Chiefs and CADD staff to resolve missing survey information.
• Support LiDAR data registration when needed.
