Job summary

Prudent Engineering seeks a Survey Technician / Instrument Operator to support NYSDOT design survey assignments. This role blends field and office work and collaborates with Party Chiefs, licensed land surveyors, and CADD staff to deliver accurate highway, bridge, dam, and boundary surveys.

You will use Trimble and Leica equipment, manage field notes, and ensure safety near traffic and waterways while traveling across New York State as projects require.

Qualifications

• At least one year of land surveying experience in field or office roles.
• Ability to interpret survey plans, field notes, sketches, and legal descriptions.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for operating company vehicles.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather and travel across New York State.

Responsibilities

• Operate Trimble robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, levels, data collectors, and laser scanners.
• Collect accurate field data for survey control, boundaries, topographic features, and construction layout.
• Prepare survey files and field notes in compliance with NYSDOT requirements.
• Process, adjust, and evaluate survey data using MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, and Trimble tools.
• Coordinate with Party Chiefs, licensed surveyors, project managers, and CADD staff to resolve missing or inconsistent data.
• Assist with LiDAR point-cloud data integration into deliverables.
