Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a land survey technician to perform a variety of field and office tasks related to county projects. Under general supervision, you will assist in data collection, calculations, and monument maintenance while supporting the survey team.

The role requires an associate degree in surveying-related fields or equivalent experience, plus a valid Utah driver’s license; a background check and drug test are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Surveying, Drafting, Pre-engineering, or Geographic Studies with 1 year of related experience; or 3 years of related experience.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid Utah driver’s license.
• Must pass drug test and background check before starting.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains the field office and survey equipment.
• Assists the Crew Chief in field calculations, data collection, and evaluation; maintains survey field notes and enters data into the County Surveyor's database.
• Assists in deployment of safety equipment and traffic control procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Operates equipment, collects data, and makes calculations to retrace survey monument locations.
• Maintains Salt Lake County's survey control network and elevation benchmark system.
• Reads and interprets survey descriptions and assists in monument preservation processes.
