Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking an Assistant Survey Party Chief to work in Council Bluffs, IA, performing field surveys and data collection to support highway projects. You will use GPS, RTK, total stations, and digital levels to collect topographic and construction data.

The role requires 3+ years of surveying experience, a valid driver's license, and willingness to travel. You will assist in training staff and may lead the survey crew on occasions.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time engineering surveying experience required.
• Experience operating survey instruments.
• Valid Class C driver's license required.
• Ability to travel and may stay overnight on assignments.

Responsibilities

• Collect, record, and verify topographic, boundary, and construction survey data using GPS, RTK, total stations, and digital levels.
• Perform field surveys for roadway, bridge, drainage, and right-of-way projects, including staking and locating grades.
• Research land records and project plans to prepare for field survey work and load data for use in the field.
• Process survey data and support drafting of survey deliverables using CADD software.
• Operate, maintain, and repair survey instruments, vehicles, tools, and field supplies.
• Coordinate field access with landowners, utilities, and the public; assist in training new staff and lead the crew when needed.
