Job summary

State of Iowa - Executive Branch seeks an Assistant Survey Party Chief to support highway surveying and data collection in Council Bluffs. You will work with GPS, RTK, total stations, and data collectors to collect topographic and boundary data for roadway projects.

Responsibilities include staking, plan review, data processing, and assisting in field and drafting tasks. Valid driver’s license and pre-employment physical are required; occasional overnight travel may occur.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time work experience in engineering survey, including operation of survey instruments.
• Total of three years of education and/or experience with civil engineering, construction engineering, or photogrammetry.
• Current continuous experience in state executive branch with at least one year in survey, construction, maintenance, or design as Highway Technician roles.

Responsibilities

• Collect, record, and verify survey data using GPS, RTK, total stations, and data collectors.
• Perform field surveys for roadway, bridge, drainage, and right-of-way projects, including staking and locating grades.
• Research land records and project plans to prepare for field work and load data.
• Process survey data and support drafting of deliverables using CADD and survey software.
• Operate, maintain, and repair survey instruments, vehicles, and field supplies.
• Coordinate with landowners, utilities, and the public; train new staff and lead survey crew when needed.
