Job summary

Parametrix in the Puget Sound region is seeking a Survey Party Chief to independently lead field survey activities across boundary, topographic, construction staking, and as-built surveys, while coordinating with professional land surveyors and engineers.

This field-focused role requires travel to project sites, strong QA/QC, and the ability to mentor junior staff; a valid driver's license and experience with robotic total stations and GNSS are preferred.

Qualifications

• Progressive land surveying experience with field leadership.
• Experience with boundary, topographic, construction staking, control, and as-built surveys.
• Ability to interpret plans, maps, and legal descriptions.
• Strong attention to detail, safety, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and lead daily field survey activities (boundary, topographic, construction staking, control, as-built).
• Direct and support survey crew members while promoting safe field operations.
• Operate and maintain survey equipment (robotic total stations, GNSS, data collectors).
• Review project requirements and survey instructions for field assignments.
• Perform field calculations and ensure data accuracy before leaving site.
• Maintain organized field notes, sketches, and equipment documentation.
• Download and preliminarily process field data for CAD production and review.
• Coordinate daily crew needs, access, and schedules.
• Communicate with professional land surveyors, PMs, engineers, and clients.
• Identify and escalate issues affecting accuracy, safety, or schedule.
• Follow QA/QC procedures to ensure defensible work.
• Mentor less-experienced staff and share knowledge.
