Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a Survey Instrument Technician to support the Surveyor Party Chief in collecting survey data using designated equipment. The role requires five years of verifiable surveying experience in commercial or heavy industrial settings and willingness to travel for projects.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, TWIC card, and the ability to read measurements with intermediate math skills including trigonometry.

Qualifications

• Five years verifiable surveying experience on commercial/heavy industrial construction.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
• TWIC card required.
• Ability to travel and stay overnight.
• Must read and comprehend measurements.
• Intermediate math including trigonometry and coordinate geometry.
• Effective communication and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Willing to work in outdoor field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates total station, digital and automatic level, Topcon data collector, TDS software.
• Collects data for field notes reported to the Surveyor Party Chief.
• Assists in loading and unloading survey equipment from the company vehicle.
• Travels and stays overnight as workload requires.
• Complies with Health, Safety & Environmental policies and participates in safety meetings.
• Maintains on-time attendance.
