Job summary

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma and has 1+ year of survey experience, with the ability to operate GPS, RTK, and traditional total stations. Valid driver’s license and badges are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year survey experience as Rodman or Instrument Man or equivalent.
  • Must obtain badges/certifications to enter sites (e.g., MOT, badges for Duke Energy, CSX, DOD).
  • Experience operating surveying equipment (GPS, RTK, Total Stations, levels).

Responsibilities

  • Receive training on surveying from the party chief.
  • Load/unload survey equipment for daily tasks.
  • Set up backsights/foresights and demonstrate instrument operation.
  • Maintain and operate survey-grade instruments; ensure safety equipment is ready.
  • Set up data collectors and enter collection codes; review data for errors.
  • Assist party chief with field notes and project decisions.
  • Occasionally step in as temporary crew chief when needed.
  • Travel to remote field locations and work overtime as required.
