Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Survey Instrument Operator in Virginia Beach to support the Survey Party Chief in land surveys for roads, bridges, and buildings. The role includes establishing lines for stakeouts, recovering corners, and setting traverse control points, with potential leadership in the absence of the Survey Party Chief.

This permanent onsite position requires traveling across Virginia and nearby states, with per diem and lodging provided.

Qualifications

• Proficient in basic surveying concepts and field procedures.
• Strong math and measurement skills.
• Familiarity with survey data collection software is preferred.
• Ability to read and apply drafting symbols and notations.
• Understanding of surveying instruments and proper care and calibration.
• Knowledge of property lines and basic land law concepts.
• Adherence to safety rules and job-site protocols.
• Willingness to travel extensively across Virginia and neighboring states.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate survey equipment including data collectors and GPS devices.
• Perform stakeout and locate surveys using appropriate tools and methods.
• Lead the survey party when the Survey Party Chief is absent.
• Establish and re-establish lines for stakeouts and property lines.
• Recover and mark property corners and set traverse control points.
• Set stakes for construction stakeout projects and maintain field records.
