Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is seeking a Field Engineer to provide field engineering services and technical support for the maintenance, construction, testing and commissioning of substation equipment up to 500kV, including transformers, breakers, CCVTs, Cap Banks, SVCs, relay protection and SCADA systems.

Role involves 90%+ field work at various substations; requires a BS in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering and at least 2 years of experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
• PE license or equivalent ABET-accredited degree plus advanced degree is preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of engineering experience in substation or related field is required.
• Familiarity with protective relays and SCADA systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe work practices for coworkers and the community.
• Commission and test substation equipment up to 500 kV in field.
• Develop plans, review results, and prepare energization and isolation plans.
• Provide onsite technical support during preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Assist in design, maintenance, or testing of substation equipment and systems.
• Lead or support in root-cause analyses and technical reporting.
• Travel across the FirstEnergy system; occasional overnight travel.

Education

ABET-accredited engineering degree (Electrical, Civil or Mechanical)

Professional Engineer (PE) License

Engineering degree or tech degree + advanced degree
