Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced Senior Substation Commissioning Engineer for a field assignment based in Albuquerque, NM. The role involves overseeing commissioning activities, reviewing designs, troubleshooting, and ensuring safe and reliable operation of high‑voltage substations.

Candidates should have 15+ years in construction and commissioning, familiarity with ABB, AREVA, Siemens, SEL relays, and strong communication skills. Per diem is offered for qualified travelers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of experience in construction & commissioning at high voltage substations.
• Familiarity with microprocessor protection relays used in electric utility substations (ABB, AREVA, Siemens, SEL).
• Ability to read AC/DC schematic and wiring diagrams for protection and feeder systems.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee commissioning activities for substation projects, ensuring compliance with engineering and operational standards.
• Provide engineering oversight, including reviewing designs, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with teams.
• Manage system testing, verification, and energization to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Work closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams to drive project completion.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols, project schedules, and utility standards.
• Review/Create project specific testing and commissioning plans and energization plans.
• Review/Create project specific site work plans.
• Monitor relay testing and review of relay settings.
• Monitor functional testing with three-line current, potential diagrams and schematics.
• Monitor and review testing of SCADA and communication systems.
• Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing activities.
