Job summary

Brightsmith is hiring Field Engineer – Mission Critical Cooling Infrastructure to support mechanical installation, testing, commissioning and operational readiness on major data center projects across the United States. This role is remote with 75% travel.

You will work hands-on on active construction sites, collaborating with contractors, commissioning teams and customers, reviewing drawings, and delivering documentation from site to close-out.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent practical/field experience.
• Hands-on experience within mechanical construction, field engineering or commissioning.
• Strong understanding of piping and fluid-based systems.
• Comfortable working directly with contractors and customers on active project sites.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel extensively across the US.

Responsibilities

• Support the installation and commissioning of mechanical piping and cooling systems.
• Oversee pressure testing, flushing, filling and passivation.
• Inspect mechanical installations and identify issues.
• Work with piping contractors, commissioning teams, engineers and customers on-site.
• Review drawings, P&IDs and technical documentation.
• Produce site reports, documentation and photographic records.
• Support systems through construction, start-up and final commissioning.
• Travel to project sites across the US.

Field Engineer – Mission Critical Cooling Infrastructure

United States | Remote | 75% Travel | $100,000–$120,000

We're supporting a growing engineering consultancy delivering specialist technical services across large-scale mission-critical infrastructure projects throughout North America.

They're looking to hire multiple Field Engineers to support the mechanical installation, testing, commissioning and operational readiness of cooling infrastructure on major data center projects.

You do not need previous data center experience. We're particularly interested in engineers from semiconductor, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, process piping and other complex industrial environments who are comfortable working hands‑on around active construction sites.

What you'll be doing

• Support the installation and commissioning of mechanical piping and cooling systems
• Oversee activities including pressure/hydro testing, flushing, filling and passivation
• Inspect mechanical installations and identify quality, installation or operational issues
• Work with piping contractors, commissioning teams, engineers and customers on‑site
• Review drawings, P&IDs and technical documentation
• Produce site reports, documentation and photographic records
• Support systems through construction, start‑up and final commissioning
• Travel to project sites across the US

We'd particularly want to hear from people with experience in:

• Mechanical or process piping
• High‑purity / stainless‑steel piping systems
• Orbital welding environments
• Hydrostatic or pressure testing
• Flushing, filling and passivation
• Mechanical commissioning
• Process or clean utilities
• Pharmaceutical / biotech facilities
• Industrial or mission‑critical construction

Package
