Job summary

X4 Engineering is seeking a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to act as the mechanical technical authority across mission-critical data center projects nationwide.

You will lead Functional Performance Testing and support Integrated Systems Testing of cooling and heat rejection systems, validating redundancy and failure‑mode performance on live, schedule‑critical builds. Nationwide travel is required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in mission-critical or high-reliability mechanical systems with leadership on large data center projects.
• Deep knowledge of mission-critical cooling systems including chilled water, DX, evaporative and liquid cooling.
• Expertise across CRAH/CRAC systems, pumps, valves, heat exchangers and heat rejection equipment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical sequences, controls integration, and sensor strategy.
• Hyperscale or large colocation data center background.
• Experience as a Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer or equivalent.

Salary: $170,000–$195,000Base Salary + OT Bonus + Per Diem

X4 Engineering are proud to be partnering with a leading commissioning and operational readiness specialist supporting hyperscale and mission-critical data center programmes for some of the largest owners and operators in the country.

As part of the continued growth of their commissioning business, they're looking to hire a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to act as the mechanical technical authority across mission-critical data center projects nationwide.

This is a highly visible role where you'll lead Functional Performance Testing and support Integrated Systems Testing across cooling and heat rejection systems, validating redundancy and failure-mode performance on live, schedule-critical builds.

Working closely with EPC teams, controls and electrical commissioning leads, and site operations, you'll play a key role in delivering high-stakes testing programmes across chilled water, DX, evaporative, and liquid cooling systems, CRAH/CRAC plant, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers.

This role requires extensive travel to support live commissioning programmes across sites nationwide.

Key Requirements:

• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75% of the time to active project sites nationwide.
• 10+ years of experience in mission-critical or high-reliability mechanical systems, with demonstrated leadership of mechanical commissioning on large data center projects.
• Deep knowledge of mission-critical cooling systems, including chilled water, DX, evaporative, and liquid cooling.
• Expertise across CRAH/CRAC systems, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and heat rejection equipment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical sequences, controls integration, and sensor strategy.
• Hyperscale or large colocation data center background.
• Prior experience as a Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer or equivalent.
