Job description

Who is Action Target?

Action Target builds firearms training facilities for law enforcement, military, and commercial range customers around the world. Our relationship with our customers does not end when a range is installed. We are committed to keeping their facilities operating at peak performance and providing an exceptional customer experience whenever they need our help.

What’s in it for you?
  • A unique industry where you will work directly with law enforcement, military, and commercial range customers.
  • A positive working environment with an outstanding team and opportunities to grow and make a difference.
  • Hands‑on work troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, networking, control, and range systems.
  • Industry perks - Through our industry partners, employees receive discounts on firearms, targets, optics, range passes, and many other products.
  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package outlined below.
What will you be doing?

As a Field Service Technician, you will travel throughout the country to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Action Target equipment and range systems. You will work directly with law enforcement, military, and commercial range customers and will often be the face of Action Target while on site.

This is a hands‑on, highly independent position. You will encounter a wide variety of equipment and problems, so you need to be able to assess unfamiliar issues, determine what needs to be done, and complete the work safely and efficiently with limited supervision.

Extensive travel is a core part of the position. You should expect to leave home Monday and typically return Friday, with occasional assignments extending into Saturday. Travel will be by company van or airplane, and you may work at multiple customer facilities during the same week.

Some of your day‑to‑day responsibilities:
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, networking, PLC, and control systems.
  • Service equipment ranging from electric motors, circuit boards, electronic components, and network hardware to pneumatic systems, large steel bullet traps, and other heavy range equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, including high‑voltage and 3‑phase equipment, as well as network connectivity and communication issues.
  • Perform physically demanding work, including handling heavy equipment and materials, working in narrow spaces, and working from ladders.
  • Work independently in the field and complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and with limited supervision.
  • Communicate clearly with customers, keep them informed, and build strong relationships through professionalism, dependability, and follow‑through.
  • Represent Action Target professionally at customer locations, including secure law enforcement, federal, and military facilities.
What skills and experience are required?

We are looking for someone with broad technical ability, strong troubleshooting skills, and the discipline to work independently. You should enjoy solving difficult problems, be comfortable with physically demanding work and extensive travel, and understand that taking care of the customer is just as important as repairing the equipment.

The strongest candidate will have:

  • Strong mechanical and electro‑mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills, with a methodical approach to diagnosing problems and determining effective solutions.
  • Experience with electrical and electronic systems, including circuit boards and electronic components; high‑voltage and 3‑phase experience is preferred.
  • Experience with electric motors, pneumatic systems, valves, PLCs, control systems, and related equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting network connectivity issues and working knowledge of networking principles, hardware, and communication port configuration.
  • Very strong customer service, relationship‑building, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The ability to work efficiently and independently with little supervision, along with a mature attitude, strong work ethic, sound judgment, and self‑discipline.
  • Residence within one hour of a major airport.
  • The ability to pass background clearance checks for access to secure federal and military installations and obtain and maintain a passport.
  • The ability to lift and manipulate loads up to 150 pounds and work in narrow spaces and on ladders.
  • A valid driver's license.

If you have broad technical and mechanical skills, enjoy solving challenging problems in the field, communicate well with customers, and are comfortable with the travel and physical demands of the position, we want to hear from you.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive wage plus overtime.
  • Medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.
  • 401(k) with company matching contribution.
  • Paid training.
  • Paid holidays and accrued vacation.
