Job summary

QPT seeks a Field Service Technician to join the Capital Equipment Team, supporting heat-treating systems across the U.S. and globally. The role requires hands-on setup, startup experience, welding, and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical and piping subsystems.

You will travel domestically and internationally, with up to 90% travel, and will lead installation, commissioning and training at customer sites. A technical degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Five years of furnace/equipment setup/start-up experience.
• Overnight travel of at least 50% annually.
• Technical degree is desirable but not mandatory.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and welding experience.
• Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, combustion and piping systems.
• Good working knowledge of industrial electrical control systems.
• Able to work well in a team environment.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Manage off-loading, placement and assembly of heat treat equipment.
• Check-out of all subsystems per specs and drawings.
• Provide directions in resolving customer/contractor issues.
• Document problems and results of start-up and field revisions.
• Assist customer personnel with operation and testing of equipment.
• Train customer personnel in safe operation and maintenance.
• Provide progress reports and checklists with dates and issues.
• Collect and submit data during final commissioning.
• Employees must supply basic tools; specialty tools provided as needed.
• Travel to customer sites domestically and internationally (90% travel).
• Other duties may be assigned at any time.

FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prefer seasoned field tech with five (5) years of furnace/equipment set up and start up experience.
• Must have prior experience with overnight travel for work of at least 50% annually
• Technical degree is desirable but not mandatory

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for managing and supervising the off-loading, placement and assembly of heat treat related equipment
• Check-out of all mechanical, electrical and piping sub-systems, ensuring the overall system and individual components operate safely and as designed per engineering drawings, operating instructions, vendor literature and applicable specifications
• Provide directions in resolving non-contractual customer and contractor issues
• Document all problems encountered during the installation and start-up of the equipment and the status / verification of results concerning any field revisions
• Assist customer personnel with the initial operation and testing processes performed by the equipment
• Train customer personnel in the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of the equipment
• Provide frequent reports and checklists, detailing progress, planned dates for major tasks and all open issues
• Collect and submit all parameters changed and data obtained during the final commission of the equipment
• Employees are responsible for having their own basic tools. The company will provide specialty tools as needed
• Ability to travel to customer sites domestically and internationally. This position requires 90% travel
