Job summary

Carter Machinery, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician to troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild heavy equipment at customer sites. You will diagnose engines and electronic systems, disassemble/inspect parts, and complete detailed service reports with parts requests.

A CDL and DOT readiness are valued, along with strong communication and safety focus. The starting pay range is $26.88–$39.07 per hour for a 1st shift, with a $5,000 sign-on bonus for new hires.

Qualifications

• Four+ years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment.
• Expert level troubleshooting and diagnos tics of mechanical repairs.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Thorough knowledge of engines, transmissions, electrical components for quick analysis.
• CDL and DOT certification may be required or pursued.
• Ability to work overtime and various shifts as needed.
• Strong communication, written and oral.

What You Will Do:

• Apply expert level troubleshooting techniques and determine proper repair procedures on all assigned work orders
• Service, diagnose and repair/rebuild all engine/components regardless of model/maker of equipment, including electrical, computers, and monitors at customers' jobsite
• Disassemble, inspect and determine parts needed. Reassemble to factory specifications
• Interact with customers and answer repair-related questions as required. Refer non-repair related questions to supervisor
• Perform heavy electrical and computer repairs
• Interpret and utilize information from operating, maintenance and service manuals/bulletins
• Inspect components removed from machines to determine their reusability
• Prepare parts requisitions, parts returns, accurate and complete service reports, and other necessary reports and forms
• Clearly and concisely document all work and repairs completed in a timely manner
• Maintain work area, tools and equipment to promote a clean and safe environment
• Perform various other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For:

• Minimum of four years' experience repairing heavy construction equipment preferred
• Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing expert level mechanical repairs
• High school diploma or GED required
• Thorough knowledge of engines, transmissions, electrical and other related components to troubleshoot and analyze unique and high level problems/issues quickly and improvise using logic and critical thinking skills to make needed repairs
• Excellent mechanical aptitude
• Ability to repair Caterpillar and competitive components and machines
• Excellent driving record and the ability to obtain a CDL
• Ability to become DOT certified with DOT Medical Card
• Willingness to work any shift and overtime as needed to meet business and customer demands
• Strong communication with excellent oral and written communication skills
• Self-direction and well organized
• Proficient use of technical software, databases and manuals
