Job summary

Axon LLC in Raleigh seeks a Field Service Technician to provide on-site technical support for packaging machinery, guiding customers through setup, maintenance, and optimization across the machine lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in mechanical repair, knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs, and strong problem-solving and communication skills. Travel up to 85% domestically and internationally is required.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or 8 years of related work experience.
  • 3+ years in custom machine manufacturing or mechanical repair/maintenance.
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical/electrical technical applications, including Allen-Bradley PLCs, servo-driven motors and controls, and pneumatic-driven machinery.
  • Ability to read and understand complex engineering designs, including wiring schematics.
  • Packaging industry experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Problem-solver with strong independent judgment skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 85%.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to customers throughout the life of a machine.
  • Offer advice and physical assistance to identify problems and improve operation efficiency and economy.
  • On-site training of customers’ operators and technicians on setup, operation, change-over and maintenance.
  • Attend PMMI-required service training certifications and keep credentials current.
  • Assemble components for the Aftermarket parts group and assist with machine rebuilds/upgrades.
  • Prepare detailed trip reports and field time/expense documentation with recommended next steps.
  • Collaborate with engineering to update manuals and troubleshoot guides.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests and customer outreach for service needs.

Our field service team specializes in keeping machine performance strong, staying calm while acting quickly, finding solutions, and exceeding customer expectations. Axon is looking for a new Field Service Technician to join their Service team. In this role, you will provide technical support to customers throughout the life of a machine and offer advice and practical assistance to identify problems and improve operation efficiency and economy.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to customers throughout the life of a machine.
  • Provide advice and physical assistance to the customer in identifying problems associated with the operation of equipment, and offer innovative solutions to improve efficiency and economic operation.
  • On-site training of customers’ operators and technicians on set-up, operation, change-over and maintenance of the systems.
  • Attend various classes required to obtain and maintain service training certification by the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association (PMMI).
  • Assemble component parts for the Aftermarket parts group, engage in occasional machine rebuilds/upgrades, research machine designs to identify non-standard parts, and respond to customer outreach for immediate service support.
  • Prepare detailed trip reports for the customer and company that identify problems encountered, actions taken to resolve them, and recommended next steps to fully satisfy service needs.
  • Prepare field time reports, expense receipts, and follow-up communication with customers.
  • Other responsibilities may include development of machine operation manuals and troubleshooting guides, exchanging machine design observations with engineering, updating and organizing technical files, assembling and testing new machines, and participating in customer Factory Acceptance Tests.
Qualifications

  • 3+ years in custom machine manufacturing or mechanical repair/maintenance.
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical/electrical technical applications, specifically Allen-Bradley PLCs, servo-driven motors and controls, stepper motors and controls, and pneumatic-driven machinery.
  • Ability to read and understand complex engineering designs, including wiring schematics.
  • Packaging industry experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Problem-solver with strong independent judgment skills.
  • Track record of multitasking to meet timelines on deliverables.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 85%.
