Job summary

Quality Power Solutions is seeking a field service technician to perform in-field preventative and repair services on various UPS systems and batteries. The role requires diagnosing complex problems, providing technical support, and executing installations or start-ups.

The candidate will travel to client sites, interpret maintenance manuals, and ensure high-quality customer service while maintaining strong relationships with clients and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Field service experience preferred.
  • Background in electronics or electronics-related fields.
  • Ability to read and understand electronic one-line drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills to solve customer problems.
  • Able to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Commitment to quality customer service.
  • Willingness to travel and hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Major Preventative Maintenance (PM) and minor PMs, including shutdowns as needed.
  • Submit Field Service Reports (FSR) accurately for service activity.
  • Replace components such as capacitors and fans per specifications.
  • Interpret maintenance manuals, schematics and wiring diagrams to repair equipment.
  • Provide startup and commissioning of UPS systems.
  • Maintain customer and vendor relations and identify service opportunities.
  • Be available 24/7/365; weekend work and overnight travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Principal Job Duties

This position is responsible for in-field preventative and repairs services of mission critical back-up systems on various brands and sizes of uninterruptible power systems (UPS). This includes analyzing, testing, and troubleshooting complex problems related to the UPS, as well as providing technical support, problem diagnosis and resolution. Additional responsibilities can include assisting with total turnkey projects, battery replacements, system installation, and start-ups. QPS will provide hands on training as needed to perform all the essential functions of the job.

  • Perform and adhere to scope of works to conduct Major Preventative Maintenance, or PM (invasive PM by shutting the unit down outside normal operating hours) and Minor PMs (less invasive PM and not shutting down the unit).
  • Submit Field Service Reports (FSR) accurately and timely for all service activity.
  • Perform various repair functions such as capacitor and fan replacements on various brands of units and battery replacements as per specifications.
  • Ability to Interpret or learn to interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Provide start-up and commissioning of UPS
  • Maintain good customer and vendor relations
  • Identify through good customer relationships other service or equipment opportunities
  • Maintain 24/7/365 availability to meet the needs of our customers; weekend work and overnight travel are required on occasion.

QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience working ‘in the field’/field service work preferred.
  • Experience with electronics or an electronic background.
  • Ability to read and understand electronic one-line drawings is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to effectively solve customer problems
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask
  • Commitment to provide consistent and quality customer service
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software and ability to learn additional business applications
  • Must be team player who is committed to success having a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Must be able to travel, possess a valid U.S. driver's license, and be able to pass a drug testing upon hire.
