Job summary

Key Technology in Downers Grove, IL is seeking a Field Service Technician, Mechanical and Controls to install, commission, and service packaging and automation equipment at customer sites.

You will lead on-site visits, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, and train operators. Travel up to 100% may be required, with frequent overnight stays as needed.

Qualifications

• AA Degree or equivalent certificate from a college or technical school.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings.
• 2–5 years in packaging/automation field service, engineering, or manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field service calls at customer sites to provide installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, audits, retrofits, and training services.
• Lead site visit meetings with customers, explaining job scope, work completed, and conducting training on equipment operation and maintenance.
• Achieve service delivery goals, including response time, first‑time fix, and customer satisfaction rates.
• Communicate effectively with field service management and internal support teams to resolve customer issues efficiently.
• Complete paperwork, timesheets, CRM entries, and expense reports accurately and on time.
• Review customer files before service calls to prepare for the job.
• Troubleshoot equipment by listening, observing mechanical/electrical devices, analyzing machine data, and locating root causes of issues.
• Dismantle devices to access and replace defective parts.
• Repair or replace defective parts and verify functionality.
• Provide technical support to internal and external customers via phone and e‑mail.
• Assist with customer escalations by offering the highest level of technical support internally and externally as necessary.

Qualifications

• Two to five years or more experience in the packaging and/or automation industry in field service, engineering, or manufacturing.
• Must be bilingual (Spanish and English) – a benefit.
• Technical writing experience is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a company‑sponsored major credit card.
• Up‑to‑date U.S. passport for international travel opportunities.
• Travel requirements: 80% road‑warrior duty, including overnight stays and weekends.

Physical Requirements

Regularly stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day; walk, use hands and arms frequently; lift and move up to 50 pounds (up to 75 pounds on occasion). Must have satisfactory close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Work involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, moderate to loud noise, and occasionally fumes or airborne particles.
