Job Purpose

This position performs routine skilled and technical support work in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of transmission and distribution substation electrical equipment. It requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, and may involve exposure to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, high places, chemicals, electrical shocks, noise, and vibration.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage a team of field service technicians responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing transformers and other substation equipment.
• Ensure all activities follow safety guidelines and company policies.
• Plan and schedule field activities, assign tasks, and coordinate with customers.
• Provide technical guidance and support, troubleshoot complex issues, and offer solutions.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
• Monitor and document field service activities, including service calls and repairs.
• Collaborate with engineering and sales departments for effective communication.
• Mentor technicians to improve their skills and knowledge.
• Stay updated with industry trends and transformer technology.
• Handle customer complaints and resolve issues promptly.
• Prepare reports on field activities, customer satisfaction, and equipment status.

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Advanced computer skills (MS Office, email, etc.)
• Valid driver’s license with a good record
• Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Pass a fit-for-duty exam
• Willingness for frequent overnight domestic and occasional international travel
• Flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights

Preferred:

• 5+ years of experience in high voltage electrical testing
• Scheduling experience
• Transformer manufacturing and testing experience
• Experience with specific test equipment (Doble, Megger, Vanguard, Omicron, etc.)
• Knowledge of circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, CTs, PTs, and CCVTs
• Experience with specific testing procedures and equipment
