Job summary

Fuji America is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, troubleshoot, and optimize Fuji SMT automation equipment across North America. You will install systems, perform commissioning, upgrades, and provide remote and on-site support to customers.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred; SMT experience strongly preferred. Travel up to 75% with strong mechanical/electrical diagnostic and customer-facing communication skills, working primarily at customer facilities.

Surface Mount Technology Machines- SMT

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization of Fuji Surface Mount Technology (SMT) automation equipment. This role requires a highly motivated individual with strong technical aptitude who can deliver exceptional service to customers while representing Fuji America with professionalism and expertise.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Equipment Installation & Commissioning:

• Perform on-site installation, configuration, and startup of Fuji SMT automation systems across North America.
• Execute system retrofits, upgrades, and custom equipment modifications.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and process-related issues.
• Provide advanced technical support both onsite and remotely, ensuring minimal customer downtime.
• Collaborate with Fuji’s technical teams to elevate and resolve advanced engineering issues.
• Deliver structured operator and maintenance training for customer personnel.
• Advise customers on best practices for process optimization, preventive maintenance, and system efficiency.
• Collect and analyze technical data for troubleshooting, reliability tracking, and process improvement.
• Prepare clear, detailed service reports, documentation, and feedback to customers and Fuji management.
• Serve as a technical liaison between customers and Fuji engineering departments.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical & Soft Skills:

• Proficiency with interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawing, and mechatronic system diagrams.
• Comprehensive understanding of Windows-based operating systems, software installation, and system configuration.
• Familiarity with networking concepts and modern computing applications.

Travel Requirements

• Travel up to 75% throughout assigned territory/nationwide
• Flexibility to travel with short notice and for extended periods of time
• Overnight travel may be required
• Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
• Ability to travel by air and car

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (mechanical, electrical or related field) or equivalent combination of technical education, military training or relevant experience.
• Experience with SMT equipment is strongly preferred or similar automation machinery
• Strong background in mechanical and electrical diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily at customer manufacturing facilities, and may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, and varying temperatures and moderate noise levels.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Employees are required daily to stand, walk, and work with hand and automated tools.
• Employees are required to climb or balance, reach for controls, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and stand for long periods.
• Must occasionally lift, move push or pull up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
