Field Service Engineer, Propulsion

Reporting To: Service Team Lead - Marine & Ports

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will execute service work according to work instructions, ABB quality, and safety guidelines. You will deliver quality customer service by planning and executing service work aligned with customer orders and expectations. You will showcase your expertise by ensuring customer retention through effective communication of service timelines and expectations.

The work model for this role is hybrid. You will contribute to the Process Automation Marine & Ports division. Your main responsibilities include:

  1. Working with customers on-site to identify opportunities for operational improvements and pain point elimination.
  2. Performing field service tasks, identifying technical issues, and conducting analysis remotely or on-site for certified service categories and products.
  3. Preparing material lists for service activities and ensuring the availability and quality of all materials, parts, and equipment.
  4. Acting as a trainer for field service associates and customers when needed.

Qualifications for the Role
  • Associate's degree or equivalent in engineering or a technical field, with at least 2 years of marine field service experience, or a combination of education and demonstrated accomplishments.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces such as vessels, propulsion systems, cofferdams, etc.
  • Up to 85% travel required (domestic and international, including weekends and holidays).
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine, Mechanical, Electrical engineering, or similar preferred.
  • 5+ years of marine field service experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with marine/offshore environments and procedures preferred.
  • Experience with shipyard dry docking activities preferred.
  • Knowledge of marine propulsion, power generation, and power distribution preferred.
  • Understanding of marine steering systems (hydraulic & electrical) preferred.
  • Experience with confined space entry and work environments preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and design technical drawings and schematics using software like AutoCAD.
