Job description

Are you a technical expert interested in travelling across North America? Join Houdijk North America as a Field Service Engineer and enjoy a mix of hands‑on work and adventure! From performing service and maintenance to providing instructions and training, you’ll ensure Houdijk installations run perfectly for customers throughout the region. Are you ready for this challenge?

About the job

As a Field Service Engineer, you will make sure project installations keep running properly and efficiently. Depending on the type of service request, you will prepare yourself by reading and analyzing drawings, documentation, software, specifications, and the history of reported issues. In consultation with the customer, you will then investigate whether the fault can be resolved remotely or requires an on‑site visit.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Supervise, train, and support equipment operation at customer sites.
  • Perform repairs, maintenance, and restoration of technical equipment and installations.
  • Conduct remote analysis of machine faults and prepare for repairs.
  • Assemble, install, align, and test equipment and production modules.
  • Install supply connections, including electrical wiring.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across hardware, software, mechanical, and tooling domains.
  • Consult with clients regarding on‑site challenges and quality requirements.
  • Interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and documentation.
  • Gather and prepare necessary materials (tools, parts, software, manuals).
  • Prepare installation components for transport and oversee shipment.
  • Submit detailed reports with findings, recommendations, and photos.
  • Report hours and costs per project.
  • Travel 70% - 80% within North America; some international travel for training.
What we offer

You will work in an inspiring environment where, after a thorough onboarding period, you will be able to work independently.

In addition, Royal Houdijk offers attractive benefits such as:

  • A salary between $75,000 and $90,000 per year.
  • In mutual consultation, we will coordinate the travel dates with you.
  • Retirement savings – SEP IRA 10% base salary contribution
  • QSEHRA – Health insurance reimbursement
  • Internal and external training and presentations to continuously maintain your technical product and system knowledge, with plenty of room for professional growth.
  • A challenging role in a fast‑growing, specialized, and international company.
What you bring

With your solid service experience and passion for travel, you work on innovative systems and exciting projects in North America. You are practical and able to work independently, and collaborate easily with both customer staff and colleagues.

In addition, you bring the following qualities:

  • A degree in engineering or similar discipline, or an equivalent level gained through work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in the fields of electrical engineering and mechanical construction.
  • Experience with dynamic drive systems and modern (PLC) control technologies. (Knowledge of Rockwell and Beckhoff controls is a plus.)
  • Willingness to travel regularly, sometimes on short notice, for extended periods (1 to 3 weeks) to assemble, commission, and service our installations.
  • Ability to communicate and report clearly both orally and in writing in English.
Your future team

The team consists of Field Service Engineers, a Team Leader, and the Manager of the US Service Hub. You will collaborate with the Project Service Engineers from the Customer Service department to exchange information on project planning, results, and changes.

You will also have frequent contact with the Software, Mechanical, and Hardware Engineering departments regarding technical questions, system operation, and any uncertainties.

Every day, millions of baked goods move seamlessly through our systems, from oven to packaging, with unmatched efficiency and precision.
