Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $40.00 - $42.00 per hour

Position Summary

Reporting to a Field Service Manager, a Field Service Engineer will maintain technical responsibility for the Mevion Medical Systems Proton Therapy System. The engineer will learn and operate the Proton Therapy System (PTS) for various customer needs, interacting with professional and technical staff to resolve operational issues at customer sites.

Essential Functions
  • Operate the Proton Therapy System, including troubleshooting and post-service testing.
  • Provide on-site support—operation and maintenance of proton therapy equipment and ancillary devices.
  • Communicate system status to customers and Mevion employees.
  • Work on related complex clinical systems—motion control, CT scanners, X-ray/radiology devices, and robotic manipulators at customer sites.
  • Ensure PT devices operate according to specifications and monitor daily treatments and performance, identifying needed corrections.
  • Document all complaints and key performance indicators of the PT device.
  • Maintain equipment and systems according to maintenance schedules and compliance standards.
  • Troubleshoot PTS equipment including electrical, mechanical, and software issues.
  • Repair equipment, ensuring all actions are documented with required accuracy per facility, RA/QA, and FDA regulations.
  • Meet key performance indicators such as throughput, customer satisfaction, and uptime.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and safety consciousness per Mevion guidelines for safe working conditions.
  • Keep a clean working environment and adhere to safety and regulatory rules.
  • Maintain calibrated equipment and tooling per specifications.
  • Manage on-site inventory and other part management duties.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Service Management.
Education, Training and Experience
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Alternative: 4–6+ years of technical experience in the Military (e.g., electronics technicians, mechanics).
  • Experience with radiation therapy equipment is a plus.
  • Electronic, electrical, and mechanical skills.
  • Experience with computer interfaces, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Preferred experience with proton systems.
  • Strong interest in new technology and continuous learning.
  • Computer usage and debugging skills.
  • Knowledge of networks and networking techniques.
  • Solid understanding of imaging systems.
  • Experience with Salesforce or equivalent CRM product desired.
  • Required: troubleshooting and data‑analysis techniques.
  • Medical physics experience is a plus.
  • Experience with dosimetry hardware and software.
Familiarity with the following is a plus
  • Cooling systems, cryogenics, vacuum systems, PLCs, regulation loops, drivers, sensors, electric motors, high‑voltage equipment, low‑voltage equipment, etc.
  • Mechanical system repair, maintenance, and operation of large systems.
Must have ability to learn the following within the first six months
  • Operating principles and service techniques for the subsystems of MEVION equipment.
  • Proficiency in all software, control system elements, and user interfaces of MEVION systems.
  • Understanding of the electrical, vacuum, and water‑cooling systems of MEVION equipment and hospital infrastructure.

Physical and Environmental Considerations

  • Lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • English fluency, clear hearing.
  • Willingness to work off‑shift, nights, weekends, holidays; more than 40 hours per week is common.
  • Travel for weeks at a time, domestically and internationally.
  • Use of standard office equipment (computer, keyboard, copier, telephone).
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, radiation, high magnetic fields, high voltages, compressed and liquefied gases, and radioactive materials.
  • Individuals with pacemakers or similar implants are disqualified; other implanted metallic materials considered case‑by‑case.
  • Strict adherence to corporate safety procedures required.
Salary
