The Field Service Engineer at Mammoth Equipment and Exhaust plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and inspection of diesel exhaust systems and emissions control solutions for heavy industrial equipment. Responsibilities encompass various technical tasks, requiring expertise in diesel exhaust systems, welding, electrical work, compliance with safety and quality standards, and performing warehouse operations. This role involves independent travel across the USA, on-site customer interactions, and the ability to work in challenging environments, including underground mining sites.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Exhaust System Diagnostics, Installation and Maintenance:

  • Conduct DPM and Gaseous emissions testing. Diagnose exhaust systems and provide relevant information to the supervisor and engineering teams.
  • Conduct measurements using basic measuring tools and 3D scanners for new exhaust parts, blankets, and diesel particulate filters (DPFs).
  • Conduct installation of exhaust components and conduct maintenance as needed.

Insulation and Measurement:

  • Install thermal blankets or lagging onto engine exhaust systems, following installation drawings and procedures.
  • Take field measurements of exhaust systems and components (ability to sketch and properly dimension non-standard components is a must).

Other field duties:

  • Perform simple 12/24V electrical tasks related to Back Pressure Monitor kit installations.
  • Demonstrate welding and cutting skills when required.
  • Will be required to travel out of town on a regular basis.

Customer Relations:

  • Represent Mammoth professionally on site and build strong customer trust.
  • Identify and recommend add-on opportunities (DPF services, insulation, monitors, bellows, mufflers, etc.) to customers and Inside Sales.
  • Collect quote-ready information on site (measurements, photos, serials, engine data, hours, back-pressure readings, fault codes).
  • Enter field leads/opportunities in CRM within 24 hours with full scope, urgency, decision-makers, budget, competitors, and next steps.
  • Promote preventative maintenance and service plans; document acceptance/decline and secure approvals/POs within authority.
  • Plan and execute regular follow-ups, demos, site walks, and technical support for trials and evaluations with Sales.
  • Close each visit by confirming satisfaction, capturing testimonials/photos (with permission), and updating CRM and next actions by the next business day.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Interact with other employees, as well as supervisors and client crew personnel.
  • Communicate with co-workers in order to facilitate knowledge transfer, including ability to mentor junior technicians.
  • Communicate daily activities with office personnel, promptly reporting issues, change in scope or change in field conditions.
  • Complete daily timesheets detailing the labour, equipment, and materials used during the work activities for each day.
  • Complete daily reports outlining the work activities.

Health and Safety:

  • Conduct, and/or take part in, Field Level Risk Assessments and toolbox talks.
  • Ability to adhere to Zero Harm policies and Safe Work Procedures (Procedural non-compliance will not be tolerated).
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Keep warehouse organized and neat as per company’s standard policies and procedures.
  • Report on stock items to the head office.
  • Receiving and processing incoming finished goods and raw materials in the warehouse.
  • Picking, packing and shipping orders as required.
  • Ensure the min/max stocking by communicating with the supply chain department and Sales department.
Qualifications
  • Work on both surface and underground mobile equipment, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Safely climb and work on mining equipment, including ascending/descending using vertical ladders or walkways.
  • Competently use hand tools for various tasks.
  • Competent use of the following measuring devices: Vernier calipers, OD calipers, ID calipers, circumference tape, measuring tape (able to read increments to 1/32), depth gauge, level, square, and angle finder

Problem Solving and Decision Making:

  • Identify and resolve issues independently or in remote areas, prioritizing the company and customer's best interests.

Auditing and Inspection:

  • Conduct audits on mining equipment.

What You Bring:

  • Mechanical or technical background in trades such as industrial service, automotive, HVAC, or fabrication.
  • Strong troubleshooting and decision-making ability in the field.
  • Skilled with basic tools, measurements, and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Computer literacy for simple documentation and reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively (domestic and international).
  • Valid passport and ability to travel to Winnipeg, MB, CA for training with head office manufacturing team.

Physical Requirements and working conditions:

  • Demonstrate flexibility and physical agility for tasks that involve crouching, bending, leaning, climbing, and accessing confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient vision which permits employee to conduct measuring and on-site diagnostics.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity which permits the employee to perform technical duties.
  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties, technical duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection (ie/ full body harness, SCBA, SABA, respirators, chemical suits, steam suits, bunker gear, etc.).
  • Extreme working conditions ie/ very hot or frigid temperatures.
  • Work in confined space and IDLH atmospheres (relevant training, safeguards, and PPE to be provided).
  • Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels.
  • Frequent Travel to Work Sites, work truck provided.
  • Overnight stays in hotels or company houses till project completion.

Onboarding Requirements:

  • Completion of Mammoth Equipment and Exhaust Inc. orientation program.
  • Familiarization with company policies and safety protocols.
  • Training on the use of company-provided tools and equipment.

Tools usage:

  • Basic Measuring Tools (Rulers, Tape measures, Calipers).
  • 3D Scanners (Handheld 3D scanners).
  • Electrical Tools for 12/24V Tasks (Multimeters, Wire strippers, Crimping tools, Electrical connectors).
  • Welding and Cutting Tools (Welding machines, Plasma cutters).
  • Emissions Testing Equipment (Diesel particulate matter (DPM) testers, Gaseous emissions analyzers).
  • Hand Tools (Wrenches, Screwdrivers, Pliers, Hammers).
  • Thermal Blanket Installation Tools (Insulation knives, Measuring tapes).
  • Drawing tools for creating accurate diagrams.
  • Climbing and Safety Equipment (Safety harnesses, Helmets, Climbing ropes or ladders).
  • Inspection and Auditing Tools (Checklists and forms for audits, Cameras or mobile devices for documentation).
  • Mechanic’s tools specific to mobile equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Safety Equipment (Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing).
