Job summary

Western States is seeking a field technician to maintain and repair heavy equipment across job sites. You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and service engines, hydraulics, HVAC, cab electronics, and undercarriage components.

The role emphasizes safety, extensive travel (up to 80%), and adherence to documented procedures. Requires 1+ year of heavy equipment maintenance, 5+ years of diagnosis/repair experience, and a CDL with a clean record.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree is preferred.
  • One year of heavy equipment maintenance experience required; CAT experience preferred.
  • Five+ years of heavy equipment diagnosis and repair experience expected.
  • CDL with clean driving record and DOT compliance a must.

Responsibilities

  • Develops basic troubleshooting on engine and equipment systems under supervision.
  • Assists with repairs and diagnosing machine failures.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on engines and powertrain components.
  • Assists with safety compliance and documentation for service reports.

  • Independentlyperformsbasichydraulicsystemsmaintenance,includingfluidandfilterreplacement,fullsystemcleanout,

adjustingreliefvalvepressures,andpumpflows.

  • TroubleshootsandservicesHVACsystems,includingevacuating,recharging,andreplacingcomponentswhenrequired.
  • Basicunderstandingofgeneralmechanical/electricalcabfunctionspertainingtooperatorinterfaces.
Undercarriage
  • UndersupervisionofJourneymanorMasterleveltechnicianperformsgeneraltasksintroubleshootingandrepairofvarious

frameandsuspensionsystems,includingtracks,trackpads,drivesprockets,andidlers.

  • Identifiesundercarriagecomponentsandperformstracksagmeasurements.
Telematics Installations and Repairs
  • Install, repair, and activate telematics systems on equipment to enhance tracking and performance metrics.

DevelopmentPlan(TCDP).

  • Utilizesservicemanuals(STW,SIS,andpartsbooks)toaddresstechnicalissuesandperformallrequiredtaskswithin

technicianlevelabilities,inaccordancewithprintedprocedures.

  • Developsfamiliaritywithpartsreusabilityguidelines.
  • Writesandreadscomplete,factualservicereportsforfilesandwarrantypurposesusingSTWfortimelyworkorderclosing.
  • Developsskillsetstoaddressallinquiriesinapromptandfriendlymannertomeetorexceedinternal/externalclient
  • Performsotherdutiesasassignedwhiledevelopingamindsetfortechnicianproductivity.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of oneyearofFieldServiceexperiencepreferred.
  • Minimum of fiveyears’experienceinheavyequipmentdiagnosisandrepair.
  • ValidCDLwithacleandrivingrecordandDOTcompliance.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitively climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Ability to generate 97 ft./lbs. of force, by pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60lbs from the ground and place on a shelf/platform set up to 65 inches off the ground.
  • Ability to carry up to 20 lbs. while repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of ten, 8” stair steps.
  • Ability to repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of 10 rungs on various ladders.
  • Ability to assemble/disassemble various sizes of nuts and bolts, while repeatedly bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
