Job summary

Growing Groves is seeking experienced Field Service Engineers to install, commission, and support advanced gear manufacturing machines at customer sites across North America. There are two tracks: Mechanical and Controls/Electrical.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in electrical or mechanical field or combined education and experience.
• 2-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship preferred.
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical prints.
• Experience with PLC, NC, and HMI (Siemens, Indramat, Fanuc, Allen-Bradley).
• Gear grinding experience is ideal; hobbling or gear manufacturing also considered.

Responsibilities

• Install, start up, commission, and debug gear grinding, hobbing, shaping, and inspection machines.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, controls, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems.
• Run acceptance parts and provide customers with gear grinding application support.
• Train customer operators and maintenance teams; perform preventive maintenance.
• Follow commissioning protocols; close open issues; obtain customer sign-offs.
• Support customers remotely on controls and software issues (controls track).
• Work safely to company standards, including lock-out/tag-out and arc-flash awareness.

Mechanical track: mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, geometry alignment, parts exchange, and mechanical troubleshooting and repair.

Controls/Electrical track: PLC logic, NC and HMI systems, electrical troubleshooting and repair, hardware and software changes, and remote controls support.

What you'll do

• Install, start up, commission, and debug gear grinding, hobbing, shaping, skiving, and inspection machines
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, controls, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems
• Run acceptance parts and provide customers with gear grinding application support
• Train customer operators and maintenance teams, and perform preventive maintenance
• Follow commissioning protocols, close open issues, and obtain customer sign-offs
• Support customers remotely on controls and software issues (controls track)
• Work safely to customer and company standards, including lock-out/tag-out and arc-flash awareness

What we're looking for

• 3 to 5 years of experience in the electrical or mechanical field, or a combination of education and experience
• A 2-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship is preferred
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical prints
• Industrial controls experience with PLC, NC, and HMI (Siemens, Indramat, Fanuc, Allen Bradley)
• Gear grinding experience is ideal. Hobbing or other gear manufacturing experience will be considered. A strong service background and a willingness to learn grinding also work.
• Comfortable climbing, working under machines, and in close quarters; able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Valid driver's license and passport

The details

• Pay: hourly, $48 to $52 per hour. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours, with double time on Sundays.
• Travel: up to 90 percent, domestic and international. Daily travel premium and a monthly car allowance are provided.
• Location: remote. Live near a major airport. Detroit and Chicago areas are a plus, but other locations are welcome.
• Work authorization: this role supports U.S. aerospace and defense customers. U.S. citizens or green card holders only. No visa sponsorship.
• Pre-employment drug screening and health check are required.
• Overtime and weekend work are required when necessary.
