Job summary

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) is seeking an Investigator to independently conduct safety compliance audits and inspections on commercial motor carrier operations in Ohio. You will review records, educate carriers on regulations, and prepare detailed reports of findings.

Qualifications

• 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. investigative exp. with experience corresponding to type of complaints & alleged violations appearing in job posting/approved position description; valid driver's license.
• Or Completion of associate core program in law enforcement, criminal justice or in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file.
• 12 mos. exp. conducting investigations &/or inspections; valid driver’s license.
• Or 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. exp. as Investigator Assistant, 26210 with experience corresponding to type of complaints & alleged violations appearing in job posting/approved position description; valid driver's license.
• Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

• Independently conduct safety compliance audits and inspections on non-hazardous material commercial motor carrier operations, records, and equipment
• Travels in-state to perform Safety Audits (SAs), Compliance Reviews (CRs), and driver/vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulatory requirements
• Reviews driver duty status, bills-of-landing, driver qualification records, logbooks, equipment/maintenance records, and carrier equipment inspections
• Provides education to carriers regarding compliance with safety regulations
• Formulates conclusions and prepares detailed reports of compliance and safety audits and inspections
• May respond to complaints from the public and regulated industry regarding violations of laws governing commercial motor vehicle transportation within the State of Ohio
• Required to pass initial training and maintain federal certifications to remain in position
