Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a field inspector to work on transportation construction projects at various locations nationwide. The role focuses on inspecting traffic control, environmental controls, and construction methods to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

You will review contractor reports, assist in material testing, and may perform sampling of soil and pavement materials. The position requires a valid driver's license and willingness to travel 20–40% of the time.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
• Basic knowledge of arithmetic.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer or related applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of the day-to-day work performed by the contractor; review and recommend acceptance/rejection of daily reports; verify QA/QC procedures.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract and measure quantities of materials placed.
• May be required to perform sampling and/or in-place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt pavement.
