Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Field Inspector to support highway construction projects across multiple locations in the United States. You will perform inspections of traffic control, earthwork, asphalt and concrete, and ensure contractor work aligns with the approved Quality Control Plan.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, field-based environment. You will read construction plans, review daily reports, and may conduct material sampling under supervision.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or NICET in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 2 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency depends on duties and project demands.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
• Determine the acceptability of day-to-day work performed by the contractor; review daily reports, inspect quality control, and verify procedures conform to the Quality Control Plan.
• Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract; measure quantities of materials placed; may perform sampling and in-place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt pavement.
