Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a field inspector to perform on-site inspections across multiple project locations including Pittsburgh, Lisle, and Orlando. You will assess contractor work, review daily reports, and ensure compliance with the Quality Control Plan while gaining real-world experience in highway construction.

The role requires interpreting plans and specs, communicating in English, and will involve travel (20%–40%). A high school diploma and relevant certifications or experience are required.

Qualifications

• Fluent English communication, both written and oral.
• Basic arithmetic skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and programs.
• Knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specs.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials under supervision.
• Review daily contractor reports and assess acceptance/rejection decisions per Quality Control procedures.
• Sample and/or in-place test soils, aggregate base, concrete and asphalt as needed.
