Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced claims professional to manage and settle homeowner claims in the Saginaw, MI area. You will handle field inspections, prepare estimates, analyze coverage, coordinate with specialists, and communicate clearly with insureds and contractors.

The role requires strong negotiation skills, knowledge of state claim practices, and willingness to travel evenings or weekends as needed, with support from the Claims team.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in negotiation of claim settlements or equivalent
• Knowledge of Essential Insurance Act and Fair Trade Practices Act as relates to claims
• Experience with subrogation and evaluating evidence for claims
• Ability to review damages, prepare estimates, and determine coverage
• Willingness to travel for field inspections and adjust claims

Job description

• Review assigned claims and contact insureds and other affected parties
• Set expectations for the claim process and initiate documentation in the claim handling system
• Complete complex coverage analysis and identify all applicable policyholder benefits
• Create additional sub-claims when needed
• Investigate claim facts to determine payment, limits, exclusions, and recovery potential
• Review damages and determine applicability of state law and other claim-related factors
• Evaluate the financial value of losses and approve payments to appropriate parties
• Refer claims to Underwriting, Recovery Units, or the Claims Special Investigation Unit when necessary
• Document and code claim files and complete claim closure activities in the claims management system
• Negotiate claim settlements
• Handle Homeowner/CAT claims valued over $100,000 in the field
• Investigate claims requiring in-depth coverage analysis
• Prepare damage estimates using claims software for field claims
• Review estimates for accuracy
• Monitor contractor repair status when needed
• Assist the Claim Manager with file reviews and training when needed
• Serve as the face of the claims experience for homeowners in the Saginaw, Michigan area
• Travel to repair facilities and homes for inspections and other field responsibilities

Requirements

• Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience
• Eligible to acquire a State Adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire where required and maintain it as specified
• Must have a valid State Driver's License
• Three years of experience or equivalent training in negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing claim evaluation and resolution plans
• Advanced knowledge of Essential Insurance Act (Michigan)
• Advanced knowledge of Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims
• Advanced knowledge of subrogation procedures and processes
• Advanced knowledge of intercompany arbitration
• Advanced knowledge of handling simple litigation
• Advanced knowledge of building construction and repair techniques
• Ability to handle claims to Claim Handling Standards and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Ability to work within assigned ACG Claim systems including basic PC software
• Ability to perform basic claim file review and investigations
