Job summary

Jobtailor in Missouri seeks an experienced Claims Adjuster to review assigned claims, negotiate settlements, and supervise field estimates and repairs. You will contact insureds, set expectations, and document all activities in our claims system.

You’ll perform complex coverage analysis and determine payment responsibility across a range of homeowners claims. Ideal candidates have 3 years of negotiation experience, possess a State Adjuster’s license, and are skilled in using claims software.

Responsibilities

Review assigned claims
Contact insureds and other affected parties
Set expectations for the remainder of the claim process and initiate documentation in the claims management system
Complete complex coverage analysis and identify all possible policyholder benefits
Create additional sub-claims when needed
Investigate claim facts to determine payment, applicable limits or exclusions, and recovery potential
Review damages and determine applicability of state law and other claim-related factors
Evaluate the financial value of losses
Approve payments for appropriate parties
Refer claims to Underwriting, Recovery Units or the Claims Special Investigation Unit when necessary
Document and code claim files and complete claim closure activities in the claims management system
Negotiate claim resolutions
Handle Homeowner/CAT claims valued over $100,000 in the field
Prepare damage estimates using claims software for field claims
Review estimates for accuracy
Monitor contractor repair status when necessary
Assist the Claim Manager with file reviews and training when necessary
Serve as the face of the claims experience for Metro Detroit customers
Inspect property damage and work directly with homeowners to provide service and fair claim resolutions

Requirements

Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience
In states where an Adjuster’s license is required, eligible to acquire a State Adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire and maintain as specified for appropriate states
Must have a valid State Driver's License
Three years of experience or equivalent training in negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims
Advanced knowledge of Essential Insurance Act (Michigan)
Advanced knowledge of Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims
Advanced knowledge of subrogation procedures and processes
Advanced knowledge of intercompany arbitration
Advanced knowledge of handling simple litigation
Advanced knowledge of building construction and repair techniques
Ability to handle claims to the line Claim Handling Standards
Ability to follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures and guidelines
Ability to work within assigned ACG Claim systems including basic PC software
Ability to perform basic claim file review and investigations
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Customer service skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with insureds/claimants
Ability to analyze and solve problems and demonstrate sound decision-making
Ability to prioritize claim-related functions
Ability to process time-sensitive data and information from multiple sources

Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for field visits
Ability to research, analyze and interpret subrogation laws in various states
Ability to travel outside assigned territory, potentially involving overnight stays
Ability to relocate and work evenings or weekends
