Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway and civil projects. The role collaborates with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure safety, efficiency, and contract compliance.

Responsibilities include planning activities, temporary works design, daily reports, quality control, and on-site guidance. Travel to job sites may be required; flexibility and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in heavy civil or highway construction.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job-site safety practices.
• High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work extended hours and travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordination, and execution to support project schedules and budgets.
• Design and implement temporary works with safety focus.
• Inspect installed work and coordinate corrective actions.
• Provide on-site direction to foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
• Monitor progress and prepare accurate reports and documentation.
• Perform quality control inspections per plans and specs.
• Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements.
• Enforce safety policies and PPE on job sites.
• Support cost tracking, scheduling updates, and stakeholder coordination.
• Facilitate communication between field, management, owners, and inspectors.
