Job summary

Interstate Power Systems in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an experienced Field Power Generation Technician/Mechanic to support our growing customer base. The role focuses on diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel-driven generators in the field, with emphasis on safety and reliability.

You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues, and work directly with customers while representing Interstate Power Systems in a professional manner.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with industrial power generation sets.
• Experience with diesel and natural gas engines, electrical switchgear, and automatic transfer switches.
• Must have your own set of general tools.
• Ability to work with diagnostic computers for troubleshooting and repairs.
• Use computers for web-based training and repair order systems.
• Physically able to lift and work with no restrictions.
• Technical degree or certification a plus.
• Positive attitude and excellent customer relationship skills.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work with little supervision.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to set goals and accomplish them.
• Desire to pursue certification opportunities for the most up-to-date product training.
• Solid knowledge of power generation products.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all makers of generators.
• Demonstrate basic-level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products.
• Complete preventative maintenance and repairs on generators or components at customer sites with minimal supervision.
• Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify components of the generator, engine, and switchgear.
• Maintain positive interactions with service writers, foremen, parts department, and customers.
• Keep paperwork updated and submit upon completion.
• Meet certification requirements.
• Perform administrative duties related to the role.
