State of South Carolina, through the Department of Transportation, seeks a Maintenance Assistant to support permit processing for residential driveways and encroachments. You will help inspect DOT rights‑of‑way work and maintain permit records in HMMS, coordinating with ARME for approvals; assist with damage claims and pay estimates in Kershaw County.

You may be required to work overtime or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies to help ensure public safety.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment.
• Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• A valid motor vehicle license is required.

Responsabilités

• Assist Engineer Technician III in processing applications for residential driveways installation and for encroachment and utility use permits.
• Operate a vehicle to review and conduct periodic field inspections on work under encroachment permits.
• Maintain HMMS permit database and a hard copy of all permits issued; forward permits to ARME for approval.
• Investigate reports of illegal encroachments and process damage claims for Kershaw County; document all pertinent information.
• Assist with verifying field quantities for pay estimates and support operations during hazardous weather or emergencies.
