Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician to coordinate encroachment permits in Florence County and assist with contract management for maintenance work including guardrails, mowing, resurfacing, and vegetation control. You will collaborate with the Resident Maintenance Engineer and ARME to plan vegetation programs and prepare related contracts.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, 3 years of related experience, or a technician certification

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 3 years of progressively responsible engineering technician experience, or an approved equivalent.
• Technician Certification may substitute for six months of related experience.
• Physical demands include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, walking on rough terrain, and exposure to environmental hazards.
• Overtime, nighttime, or weekend work may be required during hazardous weather or emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate/assist with managing the encroachment permit process in Florence County and contract management for maintenance activities.
• Assist in planning/monitoring vegetation management programs and prepare vegetation management contracts.
• Review encroachment permit applications for standards compliance and resolve permit-related issues with engineers/developers.
• Support emergency/inclement weather operations as needed.
