Job summary

SEIU Local 503 is seeking a Field Organizer to support member leadership and action, with program responsibility for organizing, contract administration, union operations, bargaining and political action. The role includes recruitment, training, and coordination to advance union policy across diverse settings.

Responsibilities cover internal/external organizing, contract preparation and ratification, grievances handling, media interfacing, and extensive weekend/evening activities.

Qualifications

• Experience in organizing, bargaining, contract administration, political action, leadership identification and development.
• Commitment to empowering workers through the labor movement.
• Experience working for social justice as an organizer or activist.
• Ability to work irregular and long hours and attend weekend/evening activities.
• Excellent communications skills required.

Responsibilities

• Organize members for action around issues and lead initiatives.
• Prepare for and negotiate collective bargaining agreements; assist with contract enforcement.
• Interpret contracts, handle grievances, and set up information distribution systems.
• Advise members on issue resolution steps and mobilize action when appropriate.
• Develop and deliver organizer training, leadership development, and political action workshops.
