Job summary

SEIU Local 1021 in Northern California seeks a Field Representative / Collective Bargaining to advance organizing and bargaining campaigns across counties, schools, and public services.

The role reports to the Collective Bargaining Coordinator and Area Director and involves developing leadership, negotiating contracts, organizing new groups, and supporting members through grievances and political action. Evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in union organizing and representation.
• Experience in negotiating contracts is highly desirable, but not required.
• Must have experience in county and governmental areas.
• Local1021 seeks to maintain a staff representative of a wide variety of backgrounds to reflect members’ interests and concerns.

Responsibilities

• Develop worksite leadership structures and recruit new members.
• Handle grievances, arbitrations, and disciplinary appeals.
• Support members in exercising political power and participating in campaigns.
• Organize new groups for union representation and bargaining support campaigns.
• Prepare workplans, calendars, files, reports, and other records.
