Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. is seeking a Certified Operator Trainee to support rail flaw detection operations across the eastern and western United States. The role emphasizes intensive training, field work, and eventual leadership responsibilities after certification.

During paid training you earn $20.00 per hour, with promotion to a $60,000 annual base salary once certified. Travel and lodging are paid by Sperry, and extensive field travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills are required for data entry and reporting.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities are essential.
• Good organizational and problem‑solving skills are needed.
• Ability to multitask and work independently is important.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete training at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn rail detection methods across Short Line and Class I railways.
• Achieve ultrasonic testing certification and apply field skills.
• Work with a crew and develop leadership to lead a team.
• Gain knowledge of Sperry’s diagnostic technologies and interfaces.
• Set up equipment, troubleshoot, and perform basic repairs.
• Follow railroad safety procedures and travel on extended assignments.
• Apply classroom training during 3–4 month travel periods.
