Job summary

City of Grand Rapids, MI seeks a supervisor to oversee multiple utility crews responsible for the City’s water distribution, customer metering, and sanitary and storm sewer systems. The role reports to a designated superintendent and focuses on safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include organizing and evaluating staff, training and counseling, and coordinating with internal/external departments while ensuring timely responses to emergencies and maintenance needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or GED) required.
• At least six years of related work experience, including three years in a supervisory role in public works, water distribution, metering, or sewer/storm systems.
• Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, schedule, assign and evaluate subordinates; provide training and counseling; conduct evaluations and handle grievances.
• Supervise crews maintaining and repairing water/sewer lines, manholes, and customer metering; respond to service emergencies.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental standards; comply with regulations; inspect work and confirm completion.
