Job summary

American Engineering Testing Inc. in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a Field Supervisor to oversee day-to-day field operations on construction materials testing projects.

You will be the interface between clients and technicians, interpret project plans, and provide leadership, communication, and problem-solving on site. You will direct staff, mentor technicians, ensure safety, and align work with ASTM/AASHTO/MnDOT requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in construction materials testing or related engineering services.
• 0–2 years of direct supervisory experience required.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assign and coordinate daily project schedules for field staff based on workload and testing complexity.
• Provide technical guidance and quality control on field procedures (soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and specialty materials testing).
• Perform or assist with complex field investigations, sampling procedures, and test observations.
• Review and approve field documentation (daily field reports, timesheets, expenses, mileage logs).
• Support the use of AET’s systems for accurate project tracking and reporting (QEST, Dynamics).
• Serve as a point of contact for field-level project inquiries with project managers and clients.
• Ensure client specifications and industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO, MnDOT) are met on active sites.
• Support development and delivery of timely testing results and project documentation.
• Mentor, coach, and train staff in field methods, safety, and client interaction.
• Conduct performance check-ins and annual reviews; support certifications (ACI, NICET, MnDOT).
• Help manage field onboarding and certifications tracking with HR.
• Lead field team meetings to reinforce safety and project updates.
• Monitor productivity, technician utilization, and overtime management.
• Assist with profitability targets through scheduling, quality, and cost control.
